The Macarthur Award derives its name from Gen. Douglas MacArthur, who gained distinction while serving in the Philippines during the Korean War. The award, given annually for over 30 years, recognizes active-duty army, reserve, and National Guard officers and warrant officers for embodying their respective military branch’s shared values of Duty, Honor, and Country. Soldiers can be nominated by their peers or by their superior officers in their unit.
Recipients receive the MacArthur Award in October of the given award year, during a ceremony at the Pentagon. The service member who awards them may be an active duty service member or a retired one. To alert the public to the new awardees’, the U.S. Army and National Guard publish press releases on their respective websites in February or March of the following year.
When not serving on military duty or in his judicial capacity, Sherb Sentell also maintains an active private law practice with his father at the Sentell Law Firm, LLC located in Minden, LA.
