An attorney with Sentell Law Firm, LLC, and the State of Louisiana’s District Attorney's Office, Sherb Sentell III is also a longstanding member of the United States Army who recently served as a lieutenant colonel engaged in military operations in Bossier City, Louisiana. After serving three years as a battalion commander, Sentell received the US Army’s Meritorious Service Medal in a ceremony conducted by his commanding officer, Colonel Randy Neal. To make the event even more personal, Col. Neal asked Lt. Col. Sentell’s wife, Julianna, to come forward for the honor of pinning the prestigious award on her husband. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Lt. Col. Sentell handed over command of the battalion to Lt. Col Christopher Cantrell. After command, Sentell was selected to attend the United States Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
The prestigious Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) can be awarded to any service member who has performed his or her duties with “outstanding meritorious achievement.” The award was established by President Lyndon Johnson in 1969 to recognize non-combat service or achievement. From January 16, 1969, to September 11, 2011, the medal was bestowed in recognition of distinguished acts comparable to those traditionally recognized by the Legion of Merit. Since September 11, the MSM has been awarded in place of the Bronze Star Medal to acknowledge exceptional service in combat as well.
