Sherb Sentell serves as the City Judge for Minden-Ward 1 in Minden, Louisiana, where he resides over juvenile adjudications, adult misdemeanor offenses, and civil disputes up to $35,000. Since taking office as a judge in 2015, Sherb Sentell led the Minden City Court in launching a rehabilitation program designed to assist juvenile offenders.
The City Court Resiliency, Elevation, Ambition, and Direction for Youth (CC-READY) program offers juvenile offenders and at-risk youth a way to turn their lives around through a series of life skills classes. Designed to provide juveniles with discipline and mentoring, the program teaches participating youth about the importance of respecting themselves, staying in school, and obeying authority. Participants also learn essential life skills, such as appropriate dress and behavior.
Minden City Court provides the necessary funds for the program through probation fees at no costs to families. The program’s classes are offered every quarter under the auspices of Project Reclaim. CC-Ready consists of four two-hour classes that take place in the courtroom, and an off-duty police officer is on hand for security purposes. Each class can accomodate approximately 15 students.
